Kate training on the New Zealand coast at the estuary
common practice is for the ones who

you don't need more motivation.
you need fewer decisions.

the training was never the hard part. it's the forty small decisions before it. what to do, how many, which app, which influencer swearing carbs are the enemy this week. i've made the calls already. you just show up.

The Winter Practice · on now

your winter,
handled.

winter is where good habits quietly go to die. it gets dark, it gets cold, the routine falls over, and by july you've written the whole season off.

this is the opposite of that. six weeks, a small handful of things that actually hold, and a group that won't let you disappear, whether you come solo or bring someone in with you. no shred. no 6am bootcamp in the pitch black. just your winter sorted, so you come out the other side still moving.

everything that's in it

only two of these are the "programme." the rest is why it feels handled.

curation and real human contact, not a wall of content you're left to get through on your own.

i.

a personal winter kit

yours to collect before we start. a few real things to get you set for the six weeks.

ii.

your 6-week programme

in Everfit. gym and home, every level, building week on week.

iii.

a daily prompt from me

one small thing, every day, 42 days. the floor you can always hit.

iv.

a private group + sunday note

low pressure, wins only, and a weekly voice note to set up the week.

v.

a mid-way coastal walk

week three. a loop and a warm drink on me. the point the chat becomes faces.

vi.

a closing sauna

week six, on me. the warm send-off, plus a playbook so the habits outlast the six weeks.

warning · known side effects
  • the weights that felt heavy in week one feeling light by week six
  • clothes sitting the way you'd been hoping they would
  • winter stops being the reason you didn't
  • sleeping better than you have in months
  • training on the days you'd normally talk yourself out of
  • a habit that's still standing long after the six weeks are up
  • a group that makes it feel less like you're doing this on your own
the practical stuff

before you ask.

no. every session comes with a gym option and a home option. at home, a couple of dumbbells if you want the extra challenge, otherwise bodyweight still gives you plenty.

less than you're bracing for. a few short sessions a week, most sitting somewhere between ten and forty-five minutes, and you move them to fit the day rather than the other way around. flat-out tuesday? take the short one. more in the tank on sunday? go longer. it bends around your life, that's the whole point.

more than okay. it's built for any level, with a floor you can hit on your worst day. beginners are the point here, not the exception.

open to everyone. bring your partner, your son, a mate, whoever. doing it alongside someone is half of what makes it stick, so if they want in, they're in.

a phone. the programme runs in Everfit, which is a free app, and everything else lives in a private whatsapp group. that's it.

the programme itself is online, everfit plus the group chat, so you can do the whole thing from anywhere. the mid-way walk and the closing sauna are auckland get-togethers, a bonus rather than the point. out of town? you do your own walk the same week and share it with the group, and we close out together on a group call. same moments, wherever you are.

nothing breaks. it's yours to move at your own pace, and if you go quiet i'll check in rather than let you quietly disappear.

doors close 8pm sunday the 19th so we can start together on monday the 20th. after that you're on the list for the next round.

give it a real go for the first week. if it's genuinely not right, email me before sunday the 26th and i'll refund you, no drama. after that we're underway as a group, so it's non-refundable, but i'm not going anywhere and i'll help you get what you came for.

an entire library,
filmed on location.

a space is really about how it makes you feel. the people in it, the objects, the sound, the light. i've always found that outdoors.

this library is my way of bringing it inside. somewhere beautiful in your own four walls, while you make time for the one home you can't move out of: your body, your mind, your self. every session already thought through, so there's nothing left to decide. you press play and go.

first access, plus a few notes from me as it gets closer.

your programme, not a template with your name pasted on top. built around your life, your body and the equipment you actually have, and moved as things change. spots are limited, and kept that way on purpose, so everyone gets the attention that actually makes it work.

in their words

the wins come in every shape.

"a far better mindset, minimal negative self-talk."

i feel a lot better physically and mentally. stronger, more in tune with my body, and far more positive in my head.

Dugan
"proud of myself every time i show up."

still early, but i'm more mindful of my health and i've got more energy. a big change for someone who never thought they'd be a gym person.

Tee
"down 4.3kg in five weeks, and built muscle."

weighed myself this morning. what a great day.

Shelley
"my body's changing in good ways."

i feel stronger. going to the gym makes me want to push for better in all aspects of my life.

Jade
"almost 5kg down."

across two programmes with kate.

Indigo
"i've finally been able to motivate myself to go regularly."

something i could never get myself to do on my own, done with a bit of help.

Katy
not sure where to start

the 60-second plan.

three taps. i'll hand you the one thing to start with, not ten things to think about.

your anchor

that's one anchor, sorted. the winter practice is a new one every day for six weeks, each already chosen for you, so working out the next move is never your job.

hi, i'm kate.

i just do the thinking first.

i came to training from design, which sounds like a non sequitur until you watch how i build a programme.

a good room isn't a pile of nice things. it's sequence, proportion, knowing what earns its place and what doesn't. i build a programme the same way. every session sits where it does for a reason, load and recovery arranged so the whole thing holds together instead of just filling a week. you feel that it works long before you could explain why.

let's talk.

most people put this off because they think they need to be fitter first, or further along, or more sure. you don't. tell me where you actually are and what's tripped you up before, and i'll tell you honestly how i'd help.

hello@commonpractice.co.nz

goes straight to me, and i'll actually reply.
